Commvault has launched its cloud resilience platform on Google Cloud, offering enhanced backup, recovery, and threat protection for enterprise workloads, signalling a shift towards integrated resilience in the cloud operating model.
Commvault has broadened the reach of its cloud resilience software by making the Commvault Cloud platform available on Google Cloud, including via Google Cloud Marketplace. The move is aimed at enterprises running cloud-native and workplace workloads that need backup, recovery and protection across services such as BigQuery, Google Compute Engine, Google Kubernetes Engine, Cloud SQL, Gmail and Google Drive.
The company says the platform combines several resilience functions in one package, including scanning backups for threats, storing copies in isolated locations to reduce exposure to ransomware and insider attacks, and recommending policies based on workload type. It also assesses cloud assets for protection gaps and highlights which systems are covered and which remain vulnerable.
Commvault framed the launch as a response to the growing pressure on organisations to keep pace with cloud expansion and AI adoption while still being able to recover quickly from cyber incidents. The company cited research indicating that 55% of organisations lack confidence in their ability to restore systems and data after a major attack. It also said the product will be sold globally through a credit-based pricing model.
The rollout extends Commvault’s wider push to serve cloud-first and multi-cloud customers through a single resilience layer rather than tools tied to one infrastructure provider. According to Commvault’s Google Cloud pages, the company already supports broader protection, migration and continuity features across Google Cloud environments, including failover and failback capabilities, as well as dedicated coverage for Google Workspace data.
Industry analysts said the announcement reflects a wider shift in how cyber recovery software is bought and deployed, with more vendors placing resilience tools inside hyperscaler marketplaces to make procurement easier and align with existing cloud spending commitments. Mike Leone, vice-president and principal analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy, said the move shows cyber resilience becoming part of the cloud operating model rather than a separate afterthought.
