BBVA completes the worldwide rollout of its innovative ADA data platform, harnessing AWS to enhance operational efficiency, foster innovation, and support real-time analytics across its entire global network, excluding Turkey.
BBVA has completed the global deployment of its data platform ADA (Analytics + Data + AI), marking a major milestone in the bank’s ongoing digital transformation. The rollout, announced recently, means ADA is now operational across all regions where BBVA operates, with the exception of Turkey. This cloud-native data infrastructure, built on Amazon Web Services (AWS), consolidates the bank’s data management into a unified platform designed to drive agility, innovation, and operational efficiency at scale.
The ADA platform underpins BBVA’s strategy to leverage real-time data analytics and artificial intelligence across its global network. Processing more than 100,000 tasks daily and storing over 8.4 petabytes of data, ADA offers a 40% improvement in operational efficiency compared to traditional systems, according to BBVA’s Global Head of Data Engineering, Marta Sanz. The platform integrates AWS capabilities such as Amazon SageMaker AI, QuickSight, and AWS Bedrock, enabling secure generative AI use cases and enhancing the bank’s analytical capabilities.
Originally launched in Europe and Uruguay, the platform’s deployment success was extended to Latin American markets including Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, and Peru. Each stage of the rollout balanced extensive process migration and user adoption while maintaining service continuity. ADA now supports over 40,000 daily users and 6,500 advanced analytics users, managing tens of thousands of data tables and datasets across seven countries on two continents.
Beyond operational improvements, ADA fosters a stronger data culture within BBVA through a global training programme that complements its technological advancements. The platform facilitates faster decision-making, improved risk management, and the delivery of more personalised banking services—all critical outcomes in the bank’s broader multi-year digital transformation agenda.
Industry recognition has also followed BBVA’s efforts. The bank has been acknowledged by Global Finance for its pioneering data strategy, AI initiatives, and customer service enhanced by empathetic practices. The Banker’s Technology Awards 2025 has highlighted ADA for its cost-efficient cloud migration, improved compliance, and robust security architecture powered by AWS. The pay-per-use cloud model reduces operational expenditure by up to 40%, underscoring the financial as well as technological benefits of the shift to fully cloud-based services.
BBVA’s approach demonstrates that a comprehensive cloud migration, as opposed to hybrid infrastructures, can meet stringent regulatory requirements while propelling scalability and innovation. By centralising analytics and harnessing AI at a global scale, ADA positions BBVA to maintain competitive agility in the rapidly evolving banking sector.
With ADA now fully deployed, BBVA claims it can accelerate innovation and respond more swiftly to market changes, all while scaling resources efficiently and securely. This digital transformation journey is positioned to reinforce BBVA’s leadership in data-driven banking, combining cutting-edge technology with a customer-centric ethos.
