At Zoomtopia 2025, Zoom Communications launched AI Companion 3.0, revolutionising workplace workflows with agentic AI features, lifelike avatars, and customised enterprise solutions to drive productivity and cross-border teamwork.
At Zoomtopia 2025, Zoom Communications unveiled its latest AI innovation, AI Companion 3.0, marking a significant advancement in its ambition to be an AI-first collaboration platform. This upgrade introduces agentic AI capabilities broadly across Zoom Workplace and Business Services, transforming routine conversations, meetings, and workflows into actionable, outcome-driven processes.
Founded in 2011 and headquartered in San Jose, California, Zoom has evolved to provide more than just video conferencing. Its AI-first platform now integrates deeply into enterprise communications, aiming to strengthen collaboration and productivity across customer journeys. The company’s CEO, Eric S. Yuan, highlighted the enhanced contextual understanding of AI Companion 3.0, which recognises priorities and goals to help teams focus on impactful work.
AI Companion 3.0 acts as a dynamic layer that spans meetings, chat, phone calls, and third-party applications. It utilizes context-aware search that combines enterprise knowledge with external market insights, delivering enriched, synthesised information from transcripts, documents, and conversations. Notably, new AI-driven note-taking functionality extends beyond Zoom meetings to in-person sessions and other video platforms like Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, and soon WebEx. Features such as meeting preparation, workload optimisation, group assistance, and real-time recommendations are designed to alleviate administrative burdens and prevent overlooked tasks.
The update also introduces a unified work surface accessible via browsers and the Zoom Workplace desktop app, consolidating information, recommending personalised actions, and offering tailored writing and research support. This adaptive hub aims to accelerate polished, data-driven work in real time. Additionally, complementary innovations include highly lifelike meeting avatars that replicate users’ live video presence—beneficial for maintaining professional appearances even when users are not camera-ready. These avatars can also be used to convey personalised messages in waiting rooms. Enhanced real-time voice translation boasts independently benchmarked accuracy superior to competing solutions, facilitating smoother cross-border collaboration.
Customization and extensibility are key themes in AI Companion 3.0, allowing organisations to design and deploy bespoke AI agents with a low-code builder equipped with an extensive library of tools and templates. Integration of third-party agents is supported through the new Agent2Agent (A2A) protocol. General availability of these features is slated for November 2025 at no extra cost for paid Zoom Workplace plans, while the Custom AI Companion will be offered as an add-on at $12 per user per month.
Beyond collaborative tools, Zoom is applying advanced agentic AI to its Business Services. The updated Customer Experience suite and Zoom Virtual Agent (ZVA) enhance automation and business intelligence with features such as Expert Assist for agent workflow automation, CX Insights for data-driven business analysis, and Automated Quality Management covering both human and virtual interactions. A novel “bring your own voice” option enables brands to maintain consistent and personalised customer engagement. Furthermore, the Zoom Revenue Accelerator introduces AI-driven prospecting capabilities that identify promising leads from event lists and databases, and execute tailored outreach through email, SMS, and scheduling channels.
Zoom’s broader vision also includes upcoming launches like immersive experiences with HP Dimension powered by Google Beam and expanded Zoom Room capabilities supporting higher-definition video streams and 4K content sharing, expected in late 2025 and beyond. These improvements complement AI Companion’s features, underscoring Zoom’s commitment to enriching user experiences with personalized, context-aware, and intelligent tools.
The new AI Companion and related innovations were showcased live at Zoomtopia on September 17 for the Americas, and on September 18 for APAC, EMEA, and Japan. Most features are available to customers from the announcement date. Zoom continues to explore ethical AI applications through its AI for Good initiative, underscoring the company’s intent to leverage AI responsibly within enterprise collaboration.
