Sabre has unveiled its first agentic artificial intelligence (AI)-ready APIs, heralding a new chapter in travel technology that aims to enable real-time shopping, booking, and servicing through autonomous AI agents. This strategic launch is designed to allow AI systems to interact more seamlessly within the travel ecosystem by leveraging Sabre’s sophisticated AI and data capabilities. Central to this innovation is the integration of a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, which functions as a ‘universal translator,’ enabling AI agents to understand and communicate using the language of travel technology.

The initial deployment of these APIs focuses on agentic AI applications for flights, hotels, and post-booking services, opening up practical and customer-centric use cases. For example, Sabre envisions a call-centre proxy agent that could autonomously manage same-day rebookings during irregular flight operations, handling tasks such as waiting on hold and processing payments on behalf of travellers. Another scenario could see an AI agent automatically notifying hotels of late arrivals and ensuring traveller-specific preferences, such as breakfast requests, are taken care of without manual intervention.

These agentic AI capabilities are powered by Sabre’s proprietary Sabre IQ AI solutions, which run on Sabre’s data cloud infrastructure developed in partnership with Google. During testing, this solution was reported to increase incremental upgrade revenues by up to 20%, highlighting how AI can not only enhance customer experience but also significantly boost airline profitability.

In the lodging sector, Sabre launched Lodging AI—another AI-driven solution aimed at increasing hotel attachment rates and driving personalisation for travellers.
